cast on stitches
Casting on is the first step in any knitting project. Whether it's a scarf, sweater, or buttonhole – mastering different cast-on techniques provides the perfect foundation for clean and beautiful knitted items.
With different cast-on methods, you can specifically influence the character of your knitted piece. Depending on the technique, the edge can be particularly stretchy, stable, or decorative – perfectly suited to your project. Some cast-ons are ideal for socks or cuffs, while others impress with a beautiful look or a firm hold.

bind off stitches
There are many different techniques available for binding off your knitting project. Each one looks a little different and has its own characteristics – some result in a very delicate, decorative edge, while others appear rather simple and functional.
They also differ in elasticity: some are particularly stretchy and thus ideally suited for cuffs on sweaters or socks, where the edge gives well yet remains nicely shape-retaining. Others, however, are firmer and better suited for edgings that should provide support and structure.
