Latvian bind off

The Latvian Bind-Off is one of the bind-off methods where stitches are sewn off with a tapestry needle.

It creates a soft, slightly elastic edge with a particularly beautiful texture. Similar to the Estonian or Latvian Cast-On, the stitches are formed in pairs. This bind-off method therefore complements the Estonian/Latvian Cast-On particularly harmoniously and ensures a cohesive finish.

1

Cut the yarn, leaving a tail about three times the width of the edge you are binding off.
Then thread the yarn onto a tapestry needle.

Insert the needle from back to front through the first stitch on the knitting needle and pull the yarn through.

2

Skip the next stitch and insert the needle from front to back into the stitch after the next.

Pull the yarn through from front to back.

3

Insert the needle from back to front through the stitch to the right of it.

Make sure to insert the needle under the horizontal thread you just created, and pull the thread through.

4

Insert the needle from front to back through the second next stitch and pull the yarn from front to back through the stitch.

5

Now guide the needle from back to front through the next stitch to the right.

Make sure you guide the wool needle above the horizontal thread you just created.

6

Repeat steps 2-5 until you have bound off all stitches.

Then, pull out the knitting needle and even out the tension of the just-bound-off stitches by gently pulling and evenly aligning the bind-off edge along the edge.
