Test Knitting - Behind the Scenes of a Design
Before I release any of my designs, they are always test knitted first.
Test knitting is such an important part of the entire design process.
No matter how much love, time, and care I put into every pattern, it is only when a design is knitted by several people in different sizes that it really becomes clear whether everything is as understandable, cohesive, and workable as I intended it to be.
That is why I make sure that every size is test knitted by at least one person.
This helps me ensure that a design does not only work in one single size, but that the pattern truly works well across all intended sizes.
Test knitting is not only about whether a garment looks beautiful or fits well. It is also about making sure that the pattern itself is clear, accurate, and easy to follow.
My test knitters help me look at the pattern with fresh eyes, work through it step by step, and notice the things I may no longer see myself after spending so much time writing and refining it.
That is incredibly valuable, because it is often not just small details that come up. Sometimes truly important issues are discovered — things that absolutely need to be corrected before a pattern is released.
For example, my test knitters help me catch counting or logic mistakes, spot unclear wording, notice inconsistencies in the order of instructions, and share thoughtful suggestions for improvement.
This is how a design gradually becomes a well-considered, thoroughly tested, and reliable pattern.
A pattern that is meant to give you a smooth, enjoyable, and joyful knitting experience.
Because creating a beautiful handmade garment should not only be rewarding in the end — the process itself should feel good, too.
For this part of the design process, I am always looking for kind and enthusiastic people who would love to help bring a new design to life together with me.
Could this be something for you?
I would be so happy if you would like to be part of one of my upcoming test knits.
You absolutely do not need to be an expert knitter. Quite the opposite, actually.
Even if you have only been knitting for a short time, you can still be incredibly valuable as a test knitter. Beginners often notice especially well which parts of a pattern could be explained more clearly, simply, or understandably.
Whether you are just getting started with knitting, have already gained a bit of experience, or have been knitting for years — you are very welcome here.
I especially love working with people who enjoy following a pattern with care and attention, are happy to share honest and thoughtful feedback, speak up when something feels unclear, approach a project with care, enjoy sharing their knitting projects with others — including on social media — and would love to be part of a creative design process.
If you join a test knit, you will receive the pattern in advance and knit it within a given timeframe.
During the process, you will share feedback with me about any mistakes you notice and let me know which parts could be worded more clearly.
At the end, you will also give final feedback on how well the pattern worked for you overall.
The test knit takes place on an online platform where you can connect with me and the other test knitters, and where I regularly share updates and the latest version of the pattern.
This is how many individual experiences come together to shape a pattern that is truly thoughtful, practical, and ready to use.
I would truly like to thank you for your time, your effort, and your valuable feedback.
As a small thank you, you will receive the final version of the pattern for free after the test knit is complete. You will also be able to choose one additional pattern from my already published designs.
A test knit is not only a behind-the-scenes look at a new design — it is also a lovely way to be part of a small, creative knitting community.
For many people, that shared experience is exactly what makes test knitting so special. You are not following the journey of a new design on your own, but together with other knitters who share the same joy in making, trying, and creating.
Your support is a very important part of helping turn a design idea into a pattern that feels polished, clear, and truly tested in real life.
If you would enjoy being part of one of my upcoming test knits, I would be so happy if you would like to join my test knit list.
Joining the list is completely non-binding. Whenever a new test knit comes up, I will get in touch with you.
A wide range of sizes is tested
My patterns are intentionally designed to cover a broad size range across 10 sizes (up to approx. 150 cm / 60" bust circumference plus ease). To ensure that both fit and instructions work well for every size, it is important to me to test the designs across the full size range.
I therefore especially appreciate test knitters working in the upper size range.
If you would love to be part of it, you can sign up for my test knit list here:
I’d love to join!
I would be so happy to hear from you — and maybe very soon create and refine a new design together with you.

I’m interested in test knitting for you. I may not always have time, but most times I will. Thanks for considering me😀
I’d like to be considered for a test knitter. I have done it 2 other times over the years and found that it gave me a “spark” to get enthused about knitting.
